Why Magnesium Is Essential To Your Health

If you own a PainPod or Hidow machine you’ll be familiar with their many health benefits, from easing everyday aches to managing injuries and chronic pain. Both offer TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) and EMS (electrical muscle stimulation). While TENS uses mild electrical impulses to block pain signals from reaching the brain and release endorphins for drug-free pain relief (1), EMS has several functions from strengthening the muscles to improving joint pain and swelling (2). Additionally, there’s a range of accessories you can add to your device to enhance and tailor your treatment experience from knee sleeves to shoulder wraps. New to this lineup for 2024 are two transdermal sprays formulated with magnesium.

When thinking about essential minerals for human health, calcium and iron may be the first ones to spring to mind, however, there are more than a dozen that the body needs daily to perform its many vital functions optimally, one of which is magnesium. It’s important for maintaining healthy muscles, nerves, bones and blood sugar levels, it plays a key role in calcium absorption and heart health, and it can also help to ease a variety of day-to-day ailments including leg cramps and cramping pain, pre-menstrual tension (PMT), migraines, anxiety and poor sleep. In fact, in the emergency room, magnesium is considered a critical medication for emergency and life-threatening conditions because it has a relaxing effect and is found in every tissue.

Although the body can obtain magnesium from foods including almonds, spinach, oatmeal, broccoli, brown rice and bananas, modern life conspires to steal this essential mineral in several ways, from drinking too much alcohol to long-term use of certain medications, making it easy to become deficient. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in 2011-12 one in three Australians aged two years and over (37 per cent of males and 34 per cent of females) did not meet their daily requirements for magnesium. Symptoms of mild deficiency range from headaches and a loss of appetite to nausea, vomiting, fatigue and weakness, but severe deficiency can also cause numbness, muscle cramps and cramping pain, seizures and an abnormal heart rhythm, and a higher risk of migraines, diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and osteoporosis.

PainPod’s new magnesium sprays are designed to be used with PainPod and Hidow devices and accessories, offering drug-free pain relief while helping with conduction when using Wraps or other non gel based accessories. Both the Magnesium Conductor Spray and Wintergreen & Magnesium spray contain 40 per cent magnesium chloride soothing everyday aches and pains, and helping with recovery from sport and exercise. Using an effective transdermal delivery method - they’re applied directly to the skin - the magnesium in the formula is absorbed through the skin directly into the bloodstream. And there’s another bonus; using a transdermal delivery bypasses the digestive system avoiding potential stomach upset, which can happen to some people taking magnesium orally.

If you believe you have a magnesium deficiency please seek guidance from a health professional.
